MacArthur Foundation
Network on Transitions to Adulthood
Postdoctoral Fellowship Award
Program Description
The MacArthur Foundation Network on Transitions to Adulthood is creating a new interdisciplinary postdoctoral Fellow program. The program is intended to facilitate the professional development of scholars who have conducted high-quality research on topics related to early adulthood and wish to further develop their skills and research program in this field. Candidates must submit a two-year research plan that demonstrates creativity, intellectual rigor, and a commitment to continued professional development on topics related to the transition to adulthood. The plan should be grounded in theory and sound research methods, build on data and research program of at least one of the Network’s ongoing research initiatives, and provide evidence of the willingness of at least one core member of the Network to sponsor the research. Positions are open to post-doctoral research associates in economics, psychology, sociology, other behavioral sciences, and policy studies.
Eligibility
• Applicants must have a doctoral degree by the date of award activation and must conduct their proposed research under a primary sponsor who is a member of the Network on Transitions to Adulthood.
• Applicants with 4 or more years of relevant postdoctoral experience are not eligible.
• Only in exceptional circumstances will applicants who have already spent a year or more under a Network sponsor’s supervision by the start date of Fellowship be considered.
• Work can be carried out in the United States at an institution to which one of the Network members is affiliated.
• Only one Fellow per sponsor may apply per application round, and Network member sponsors may not have more than one MacArthur Foundation supported Fellow at any time.

The Fellowship provides stipends of $35,000 for the first year and $38,000 for the second year. In addition, an allowance of $1,500 per year is allotted to the Network Member’s host institution for use at the Sponsor’s discretion to help pay for the Fellow’s research supplies and travel to scientific meetings. Funds will be provided by the Network to provide access to health insurance for the recipient and her/his family. Stipends and institutional allowances are not permitted to cover administrative expenses. Payments are made monthly in U.S. currency to the host institution.
