Patrick J. Carr, Director of the Institute for Violence Research and Prevention and Assistant Professor of Sociology in the Department of Sociology came to Saint Joseph’s University in 1998. His research focuses on crime in urban communities, community control of crime and youth violence. He has published a number of articles on informal social control and youth violence and is currently working on a manuscript about how the residents of one Chicago neighborhood control crime and disorder. He has received a number of awards including the National University of Ireland’s Travelling Studentship awarded every five years for graduate study abroad in sociology. He was also the recipient of a Robert E. Park Lectureship while at the University of Chicago.
